Once, a long time ago, before the world had even been created, in the cold darkness, there was only the sun god and the moon god. The sun god was very hot and fiery and he was easily angered. The moon god was very cold and stony and she was usually very bright and cheerful. The sun god and the moon god had been very happy together, until they got into a horrible fight. The moon god thought that she was more beautiful than the sun god. The sun god did not like his wife thinking that, for he was very proud of himself too. The moon god lost some stones and the sun god had lost some of his fire in the bad fight that they had. The stones turned into the land and the fire flattened it. The moon god was very hurt, so she shed some tears, which became oceans, rivers, and lakes when they fell. After many days of not speaking to each other, they made up.

The moon god thought that this thing that the water and stones made was a beautiful thing, and she decided to keep it. She decided that it should have a name. She called it earth. Meanwhile the sun god did not like the earth, so he tried to break it. But when he pounded his fist into it only puts dents in it, which formed mountains. The moon god decided to talk to the sun god about the earth. Finally, after much hard work, the moon god convinced the sun god that the earth was okay, "Look, the earth doesn't do any harm to us," the moon god would say again and again. "All right, but it is your responsibility." Most reluctantly, the sun god finally agreed.

Then, a little while later, while the moon god was eating, she spilled some crumbs of food on the earth. The crumbs sank into the ground and grew to form trees. Then part of the sun and moon god's house broke off and fell onto the earth. The piece of house that broke off bounced off of the earth's ground and formed clouds. Many clouds were formed because as the crumbs hit the earth, they split into many pieces. The moon god then cried because she thought that the earth was ruined. The tears got caught in the clouds. When the water filled up the clouds, it started to rain on the earth. Finally the moon god realized that the earth was not ruined, and she stopped sobbing. There was still some water in the clouds, which made them damp and gray.

The moon god was now getting tired of caring for the earth, so she decided to make someone to take care of it for her. She took some food and made the body of a human. Then she made it a face and a brain. She placed it on the earth and brought life to it. She told it to care for the earth and give everything a name.

A little while later, the person complained that there was nothing to do except name more and more animals, so the moon god made some other people in his form. This took much time, but the moon god wanted the human to stop annoying her. As soon as everything was on earth, the human stopped bothering her.

The sun god did not know about the people on the earth, so when he saw the humans, he thought that they were bad and he tried to kill them. He smashed his fist into the earth, splitting its land into pieces. When the moon god heard the banging sound, she immediately stopped the sun god, " The people are taking care of the earth for me!" she cried. The sun god quickly stopped.

About a year later the earth had grown quite large. So large that, in fact, the moon god had to move it farther and farther away from their house each day. The sun god was getting old now so about five days later, he died. The moon god cried and cried, she cried so much that on the earth there was snow.

Not long after, a new sun came along and he decided to be a new sun god, but he was afraid of the moon god. That is why you rarely see the sun and the moon together. The moon god still watches the earth as much as she can, and she shows her sorrow for the old sun god by making the light that she shows very dim. As for the new sun god, he tries to stay as far away from the moon as he can.
