The Elephant and the Crocodile Period
by Philip

One-googolplex years ago, the period of the elephant and the crocodile, there were herds of elephants. One day one of the herds of elephants, the gray herd, was sleepy so they went to sleep.

Later that day a crocodile came where the herd was snoozing. He was very hungry so he went to one of the elephants and tried to yank off the elephant's trunks. The crocodile didn't accomplish this task. Later he went to another elephant, but he failed again. On and on he kept on trying until he had tried to eat all of the elephants' trunks. Soon he grew tired so he went to sleep.

When the elephants woke up they realized their trunks were longer. Other elephants from other herds, especially the indigo herd, wanted to have long trunks just like the elephants in the gray herd.

Then all of the elephants went to where the crocodile was sleeping and woke him up. The crocodile gave a mighty roar. "Rrrrrroooooaaaarrrrrr ckckckckc." Then the elephants asked the crocodile if they too could have long trunks like the elephants in the gray herd. The crocodile agreed, but only if the elephants brought him the one and only wampa fruit. Wampa fruit is the most delicious fruit in the world. It tasted like strawberries in chocolate.

It was going to be a hard task, but the elephants nodded and went off on their journey. They passed the swamp and then the enchanted forest, and soon picked some wampa fruit for the crocodile. They came back with the fruit. This made the crocodile very happy, but he wasn't satisfied. He still wanted more wampa fruit, so the elephants made another trip to get the crocodile more fruit. 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 trips and still the crocodile ordered, "I'm not going to give you long trunks until you give me enough fruit." The elephants took 100,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 trips. Still the crocodile wasn't satisfied. Suddenly one of the elephants, Jack, screamed with a roar, "I can't take this any more!" and soon started stomping on the crocodile. Then Jack said to the crocodile, "Give us our long trunks or I'll do something so bad that I don't even know what I'm going to do!" The crocodile did as he was told, and that is why elephants have long trunks.
