WHY COYOTES HOWL AT NIGHT
By Katherine

Long, long ago, when animals could talk, there was an animal king named Yimakiti Coyote. Yimakiti was a very powerful and handsome king. He had copper fur, and his eyes were golden with sparkles of little glittering diamonds glowing in the exotic sun. He had a big bush of red tangled hair that looked like a palace, which he covered up with his crown. He could do anything except sing, and he was going to sing at his mother's birthday.

Now, Maid Monkey Love was Yimikiti's maid. She was noisy and laughed at her own jokes. She had two pigtails that made her look like a gorilla that just came out of the shower. One morning Maid Monkey Love came up to wake up Yimikiti. "Hello Kingy, wake up wake up!" she said. "Ah, what a horrible morning! My mother's birthday is coming up and I can't sing yet!" said Yimikiti. "Oh don't worry, Kingy, I got you singing lesson," said Maid Monkey Love."

"Maid Monkey Love, some kind men are here by the name of Mr. Coyote Shosh and Mrs. Elephanty Shosh," yelled Mrs. Lady Coyote, who was King Yomikiti's mother. She looked like a queen every morning, and her hair was always in French braids. She always wanted a party. She was always shopping all day long waiting for people to complement her. She had horrible manners, and she just could not cook. The only thing is, her face looked like an iguana, which was very pleasing to her.

. "Ah they arrived." "I'll be right back to get you your breakfast,'' said Maid Monkey Love. After Yimikiti ate his breakfast, he went down to greet the visitors. "Ah brother Somi, you are my new singing teacher." Somi was a short little coyote that was rather stout and had brown- yellow teeth and a long ponytail like a hippie. He had a big an orange mustache that grew down the front of his chest. He had dark moony eyes that looked very evil and very disloyal in a way.

"How wonderful! And afterwards I can show my huge house to you," said Yimikiti in a bragging way. "It is very nice to meet you again brother, and this is my wife, Mrs. Elephanty," said Somi. "It is nice to meet you Mrs. Shosh," said Yimikiti. Mrs. Elephanty was very much like a cheerleader. She was always making up cheers about Somi. She had a big blond ponytail on top of her head. She was actually very delightful and generous. "It is nice to meet you," said Mrs. Shosh. "Now let's get started on the singing lessons.''

Day after day Mr. and Mrs. Shosh kept practicing the song with Yimikiti, but his singing didn't get any better. Three nights before his recital, Mr. Sosh was planning to poison Yimikiti, so he could become king.

Later that night at dinner, Somi put poison in Yimikiti's drink. Finally, when they made a toast and when Yimikiti drank his drink. He started choking, and he heard Somi say, "Finally he is dead. Now I'll be king."

Then with all the coyotes in the kingdom, they ran away from the dangerous Mr. Shosh. That night all the coyotes howled to the gods that they would never have to take singing lessons again. That is why coyotes howl at night.
