How Clouds Came To Be

A long time ago, there was a god named Arlec, the water god. He lived in a place called Nanimal. Nanimal is in the continent of Africa. Nanimal's weather is usually scorching hot. Arlec means cat eyes and power. Arlec was very powerful and he was also very, very tall. He was so tall that he could put his feet on the ground and still touch the sky. He slept by putting his head in one place and wrapping his whole body around the world. His head would just about touch his feet. The other animals couldn't sleep because Arlec was either on top of their homes or almost on top of them. The coyote was the one that made the biggest fuss about this. The coyote's name was Cantu. There was another god who was Arlec's older sister. Her name was Santia, which means sun and water. She was the goddess of the sun. Santia was very responsible. Arlec was always whining, so Santia told him to go to his room for a long time. Arlec's room was outside in the sky. He was very angry for being sent to his room. Cantu also yelled at Arlec, so he went to sleep. Since Arlec was so gigantic and hungry and loved water, Santia gave Arlec an enormous block of ice that would soon melt into water. He was asleep when Santia came in to bring the colossal block of ice. Arlec dozed for 2 weeks and Santia thought he got out of his room because he was so quiet. Santia finally went to check on Arlec. He was sleeping over the world. Santia was very angry that he was asleep, so she screamed, "GET UP RIGHT THIS SECOND!" Then, Santia realized that the block of ice was gone. She was angry because water was very valuable in Nanimal, especially that big in size. Santia looked up in the sky and saw a big puffy white thing almost in the shape of a circle. Santia looked at the white puffy thing in a different way and thought it looked like a pillow. Santia asked Arlec, "How did that get there?" Arlec said, "I was asleep most of the time, but then I saw the water vanish into thin air." Santia and Arlec didn't know what to call the white thing. Then Arlec recalled that when he was asleep, he wrote a word on the block of ice with a sharp stick. The word he was trying to write was Cantu (the coyote) because Cantu had yelled him that day, but since he was asleep, he wrote clouds. They decided to call the big white puffy thing clouds. That is how clouds came to be. |
