GOLD FEVER!
These are some of the
students' "Saturday Night Activities" during our gold rush
simulation. Students wrote poems, songs, and skits; some drew picures
of mining equipment, gold mining towns, and other glimpses of the California
Gold Rush. A few of them were displayed on a bulletin board in our classroom.

Polyhedra Constructions
After
learning the properties of polyhedra, each student made their own construction.

Endangered
Species
This
was an interactive bulletin board that focused on endangered species.
Students selected pictures of animals and matched the animals with the
countries in which the animals live. One of the activities during this
unit was a research paper. Each student chose an endangered animal to
study.

Native
American Legends

After gaining insight into the art of Native American storytelling from
Dr. Weighill Howaste (Chumash medicine man and storyteller), students
crafted
their own legends and shared
them with classmates and parents.

6-Point Designs
After
a series of lessons on 6-point constructions, my students created these
designs.

Math Experiment
Students made predictions
and conducted experiments in probability by dropping coins on a mat
that they had shaded in with a variety of colors prior to carrying out
the experiment.

Read-In
Each year my students
work toward a read-in. They earn points as a class for cooperating with
each other, demonstrating good listening skills, and working diligently.

The students get comfortable
and read their favorite books for most of the day!
